About this wiki
The Sinclair C5 Parts Wiki is a reference for owners and restorers, maintained alongside c5.me.uk. Its aim is to keep everything known about the C5 in one durable place: original documents disappear, people who were there in 1985 are getting older, and much of today's knowledge is shared on social media, where it is hard to find again.
How pages are organised
- Parts: one page per part, grouped by system (body, chassis, steering, brakes, wheels, drivetrain, pedals, electrics, battery, accessories, tools). Non-original upgrades and new designs are in each system's addons section. Reproductions of original parts are on the original part's page.
- Guides: practical how-to and reference articles.
- History: facts, dates and people. Longer stories are on c5.me.uk.
- Documents: a record of each original document, and where to see it.
How part pages are written
Every part page follows the same order: header box (system, handbook item, Sinclair part number, Hoover factory number), description, specifications, removal and fitting, maintenance, known problems, repairs and reproductions, related parts, sources. A section is left out only when there is nothing useful to say; “no maintenance needed” is kept, because that's useful to know.
Pages are written in UK English.
Sources
Every fact should be traceable. Pages cite:
- original documents: the 1985 Owner's Handbook, Sinclair service notes, the Hoover training notes and assembly sheets, spares price lists;
- The Unofficial Sinclair C5 Service Manual, written with the engineers who designed the C5's electrics;
- period press;
- community knowledge, with a link to the original post and the poster's name, so the people who worked things out get the credit.
Where sources disagree (production totals, range, wheel sizes), pages say so rather than picking one.
Who maintains it
The wiki is maintained by the owner of c5.me.uk. Many pages were drafted with the help of an automated assistant working through the automatic account, which shows in the page history. Corrections and additions are welcome; contact details are on c5.me.uk.
